This is the English reading version of the Dutch news item Autodesk trekt stekker uit Fusion op Intel gebaseerde Macs.
Autodesk is dropping Fusion on Intel Macs. At the end of March 2027 a release arrives that runs on Apple silicon only, and Intel Macs stop receiving updates after it. The last version built for Intel stops working about eight months later, because the installation depends on Autodesk’s servers.
How many users this affects is not known. Valve’s hardware survey gives an indication: 10.2 percent of the Macs there report an Intel processor. That is a gaming audience, and Mac users do not game much, so the real share will be higher.
My verdict: this again proves how important open source is.
