I test and write about open-source CAD software. Are you building a CAD program, an app, a plugin or a tool that belongs on this site? Send me a link and I will take a serious look at it.
What I look at
Mechanical design mostly: sketching, parametric modelling, assemblies, technical drawings and getting a model ready for production. Also the parts underneath that, such as the geometric kernel, file exchange (STEP, IGES, DXF) and scripting or an API. AI-assisted design is fair game too. BIM and electronics are on this site for reference, but they are not my main testing ground.
What you get
- I download and install it myself and try it on real parts, not on a demo walkthrough.
- An honest review on opensourcecad.nl, including the things that do not work yet.
- If you want, you get the draft before it goes live.
What I cannot promise is coverage. I write about a tool when I think it is worth a reader’s time, and I decide when that is.
What I need from you
- A link: the repository, a download page or a live demo
- Two lines about what it is and who it is for
- Where it stands: prototype, beta or released
- Licence and platform (Windows, Linux, macOS, web)
- If you have one: a sample model or a task that shows what it can do
- Anything you would rather not see published — tell me upfront
How it works
This is not a paid placement and there is no fee for a review. My verdict stays mine: if something is not good enough yet, I say so and explain why. And if I cannot test it properly — because it is closed off, not installable, or simply not my area — I will tell you that instead of writing something thin.
Send your link to info@opensourcecad.nl. I read every message and I reply either way.
